    It WAS destroyed in 2277. Thats cope. The fall does not mean decline because Rome, the fall of Rome refers to several actual dates that could mean the collapse. 410 being one such date when Rome was sacked. Lucy mentions the plague of 77 when her mom died which was her dad’s excuse to go nuke the city. In the end title cards we can see a shady sands library card that stopped taking records in 76. It was in 2277 and you saying it isn’t because “Todd said so” is cope.

      Todd saying that Shady Sands wasn't destroyed in 2277 means that's canon though. It probably was that originally but since Todd came out and course corrected, then the course correct is the canon outcome

      @@Spongebrain97 doesn’t fucking matter. It’s basically been confirmed that Todd’s being treated like a child on set and only allowed to interfere with the props and sets. The story of the show has still ruined Fallout NV. Fallout 2 and Fallout 1. And made every action the players taken meaningless. There is only one thing Todd can say that’d fix this and it’s that the shows it’s own continuity.

    There was one fallout youtuber, forgot his name, I think he's the one that made "Bethesda never understood fallout" video but basically he had a great line that goes something like this "The problem isn't that you can't justify it in canon, THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT'S BORING. If the entire west, east, midwest is just deathclaw o'clock then we have no reason to get excited to see new entries to the series. The appeal was to see post post nuclear world that crawled out from the ashes, but Bethesda thinks the game is about the ashes". Same goes for me, idc if Bethesda can justify so many retcons, I'd excuse RETCONING EVERYTHING, yes EVERYTHING, if they just provided a good RPG. Just ONCE. They can't make an RPG even as half as engaging as FNV is, and the fact that FNV got 84 score and critical acclaim from gamers is what makes me hate Bethesda. Yoy know it would be one thing if FNV never became popular and done poorly in sales, yoy could at least say "Well, that's why Bethesda ain't making more fallout RPGs cuz rpg genre doesn't sell, hence why they focus on survival aspects " but it's a bold lie, FNV DID sell well, had it not been for bugs and maybe lack of polish in some places(rushed dev time) the game would've done even better! Add Bethesda skills at making pretty maps and we could have had genuinely timeless RPG game series, and Bethesda refused to unlock this potential... Oh yeah the TV show, it would also still be bad even without retcons, Maximus felt more like a villain for first half of the series, but not a charming one or scary one, so the fact they tried to sell him as a good guy when he joined Lucy is bizarre and doesn't work, Lucy was meh, The Ghoul got too little screen time and development time, the rest of the characters got too little time to develop or just boring, the story is even more boring, and the tone feels even more juvenile and goofy than previous Fallout games from Bethesda.

    Vaults, especially 3 of them in one place in the heart of L.A along with vault 14 & 15 seeing if Shady sands is closer to Boneyard should be on the Masters catherdrals doorsteps. The catherdral being the tri 33 vault wouldve made more sense if the master killed the dwellers & used the database to locate the other vaults, not only would it explain Vault-tecs absense along with enclave being absent for 100 years due to loosing vault tec centrum Not to mention how recaping Fallout 1 would make for a 1000x better show.

    So Fallout new vegas? Definitely Ed E hands down. Fallout 4? Has to be Nick because he is the goat BUT Piper is a great character. I really like her and i wish there could be more companion lines…i play this game 300 hours…and i have pipers dialogue after 20. So yeah that kind of sucks. Nick actually has more interaction in quests. But i still have to shit on bethesda. They make such an amazing game, and fallout 4 is amazing, but manage to leave it bare bone. They have a lot of great systems and they integrate the pip boy perfectly, they make good companion systems but dont use it to its potential. They make settlements but dont use them to their potential. Its annoying. They have good ideas in theory but never follow through.

    My two biggest problems with the Vault-Tec launching the nukes is that its incredibly lazy and it makes every smart character we know of from before the war look like complete idiots. The "the real enemy was capitalism all along!" trope is possibly the laziest in the 21st century. It feels like every single show or film series eventually defaults to this. I am not against some good old anti capitalist messaging when it makes sense but I always thought in the fallout universe it was the government controlling the companies, not the other way around. Hence why the Enclave was so powerful. Fallout had the chance and the history to pick a more interesting response. Then the fact that apparantly RobCo, Vault-Tec and all the major figures seemed to have just "forgot" when they would launch the nukes? Like the enclave managed to get most of their major personnel to their bunkers or the Poseidon energy rig but all the people who actually launched the bombs couldnt? It just seems dumb. House even says he predicted it, not that he planned it. So if he knew Vault-Tec would launch the nukes why wait around until the day of to upgrade his securitrons or even why bother saving Vegas? Why would Vault-Tec personnel not have all been sealed away a day before the nukes? Why would Barb not have her daughter nearby? It all just seems so brain dead. I am no longer trying to justify the lore. I am going on the rule that there's two cannons. The real fallout canon which ended in fallout 4 and the TV canon.

    • @zhulikkulik
      @zhulikkulik 3 дні тому

      The fact that they discussed it doesn't mean they did it. But the whole "we will end the world to earn even more money" is ridiculously stupid idea. Vault-Tec would greatly benefit from keeping the conflict heated, but they would lose everything if the world ended. House seems to just play along here. He doesn't want to show that he's preparing to.project Vegas. PS the real canon ended when the vault dweller was expelled from the vault. There are at least three canons - 2/Vegas is the second and Bethesda's games is the third.

    Vault-Tec orchestrating a false flag nuclear attack has been the implied canon for decades. Vault-Tec was working with the Enclave to wipe the slate clean, and then potentially abandon Earth. That was the whole point of the Vaults; to experiment with potential generation ships and bases on other planets. The only problem I have with that scene is it completely abandons that only being a subtextual element in the games, and instead they handhold the viewer and say it explicitly. It was a really lame choice to have it be a big reveal in season 1 of the show, when the games have only hinted about it this whole time. The whole show lacks restraint and subtle elements of the lore that made Fallout a great game series.

    I thought it was pretty heavily implied that China launched the nukes first; Tim Cain himself confirmed this before the show came out. To me, it makes the most sense considering that they lost Alaska and were getting Desert Stormed over in mainland China before the bombs fell. Vault-Tec being responsible for dropping the bombs because they wanted to "eliminate competition" and "win the game of capitalism" is not only completely irrational but extremely out of character for people who are supposed to be profit-seeking capitalists. Capitalists would never believe that capitalism is a zero-sum game like they do in this show. The show then presents capitalists as those with very little regard for human capital, which is paradoxical. "Yeah guys let's destroy the world! It would restrict our ability to produce *and* reduce the number of consumers we can sell to at the same time! It's a foolproof plan!" Like you said, it makes much more sense for them to want to drag out the war and milk the U.S. government for everything it's worth.

      Interplay's Fallout 3 and Fallout Online were both going to confirm Vault-Tec is responsible for dropping the bombs before they were scrapped, the Fallout Bible says as much too. A for profit organisation which makes money from selling spaces inside nuklear fallout shelters can only really make any money as long as the status quoe of late stage capitalism is still in effect. The 2 things that Vault-tec would want the least would be 1: For the paranoia around the idea of another world war to just end. And 2: For said war to actually occur, they only earn money as long as there is a war on the horizon. What would they gain from starting the great war? This whole idea would only make sense if we'd assume that the weird morality system from fallout 3 is cannon, where people just do eeeevil things because they happen to be born marked as an evil person, who's only purpose in life is to go out there and k*ll as many people which are assigned as good as possible, and we know for a fact that this is simply not the case (luckily) so no matter what, until they outright say that Vault-tec did it people will rightfully reject the idea, because there is no circumstances under which it makes any sense whatsoever, and even if confirmed people will still rightfully call bs.

      They're still using the jargon of American democracy and capitalism, but do they really believe it? Their actions are like a dystopian critique of early 20th century "dictatorship of scientists" type technocrats. So there's a few ways to interpret them in season 1: 1. The inevitable final move of capitalism is to blow up capitalism and they just realized this before anyone else. 2. The military-industrial-evil super science complex of 2077 is corrupted to the point they'd start a nuclear war to hang on to power, despite barely keeping up appearances with patriotism and references to American values. Critique of Cold War America, corporatism, very on brand for Fallout. 3. The evil super science wing of the military-industrial complex has outgrown the other parts and the government. Despite barely keeping up appearances with talk of profits and markets, they want to establish technocracy. The new lower class in the vaults will still believe in the American Way, but everything is firmly under control of the evil super scientists and the evil social scientists in human resources. Do they even still have a currency to measure profits in? Who cares, because it's not really about profit. On brand for Nolan, Fallout, and on theme for stuff like "death to management" and Bud's Buds. I can see why people view Vault-Tec through the lens of #1 because it's what some characters plainly say their motivation is. But being that blunt and leaving it there doesn't leave a lot of room for the Fallout-y and Nolan-esque big reveal of a deeper level of conspiracy in season 2.

    I feel like a lot of the problems people have with the lore issues might not be as bad when the second season comes. If the show ended after season one, I could agree with a lot of the issues, mainly how contrived the stuff with Shady Sands and Vault-Tec seem. I feel strongly that we're going to get more information and details in season two though. More flashbacks and explanations on what will happen that can correct inconsistencies and expand upon ideas that are currently shallow. I think a lot of other people's problems with Shady Sand's destruction are that it seemingly came out of nowhere, but the more I watched the show the more it seems like they do plan to do more exploration of it's destruction than just what we got in season one. I feel the same with Vault-Tec. Yes, they are implying they're going to drop the bomb so they have control over it, but in that case, why were Cooper and his daughter caught by surprise when it did? Shouldn't they have seen it coming? I feel like the show is setting a lot of foundations to build upon in season two. There's a lot more that they could do and a lot of implications they could still subvert if they want to pull a plot twist.

    Vault tek talked about it, but it wasn't (as far as I understood) confirmed that they actually did. More that if it it looked like it wasnt going to happen on its own, they would make sure it happened. Also too many unfinished vaults and other half done projects to make vault tek dropping the bombs to make sense. Also, I took "fall of shady sands" to be like "autumn of shady sands" as in the decline before the "winter" or end. The lore about the goulds is what bothered me. Somehow they went from ageless to true zombie like, head shots only.

      @DominionSorcerer 4 дні тому

      Closest we got to Vault-Tec being confirmed was Interplay's Fallout 3 and Fallout Online, as well as the Fallout Bible - neither of which are canon. Megaton's nuke is marked with Vault-Tec's logo, so that implies they dropped nukes on American soil. Also, about ghouls, that's actually pretty accurate to how feral ghouls were portrayed in Fallout 1 and 2. They were depicted pretty much as undead husks only animated by the lethal amounts of radiation their bodies had absorbed, they didn't have to eat, they didn't have to drink, they had no body heat. They also couldn't run and shambled around slowly and, like zombies, were only dangerous in hordes.

    Sure, making Vault Tec responsible for the great war and Nuking the NCR were dumb, but can we acknowledge how crappy the T-60 Helmet ( specifically *just* the helmet) looks in the show? It's like a life-sized Funko pop helmet, hell, even *Fortnite* did a better job.

  • @The_Alt_Vault
    @The_Alt_Vault 4 дні тому

    My ways for fixing the lore inconsistencies is by one saying "oops we meant the Bonyard was hit by a nuke not Shady Sands sorry" and then have the resulting refugee crisis and economic crisis to cause the NCR to shrink back into its Northern territories. Option 2 is to act like their was a lot more walking involved that the 4 wasteland sets they had to work with. And use the creator in the boneyard as where the cathedral was or just a nuke from the grate war. As for Vault Tec did it I can see that they planned to as part of the Enclaves original goal of colonising a new world or wiping the slate clean on earth to have total control from the beginning of the new Enclave led civilization. And simply they planned to do it but we're beaten to it hence why major figures weren't ready for the bombs. Then you have House who likely wasn't told when it would happen due to not being on bored with the plan, but the meeting itself being a vital part of his calculations for getting so close with his predictions. Or this too is a very strong misinterpretation where their going to drop a bomb to boost the need for more vaults their has been hints to show that Vault Tec is running out of money. Overall Bethesda was clearly saying yes this is how it is presented in the show as cannon but that happens when your writers either don't know the lore, are getting clift notes or your just trying to remember detail off the top of your head/miss reading the wiki and can't be bothered to watch some of the hours of lore content on UA-cam.

    I think shady sands nuking came years after 2077 and i think theres a clue in the show that this is the intention. The sign that says "the first capital of the NCR". I think its pretty clear that shady sands was taken from the ncr in 2077 and that they had to move the captial elsewhere. Personally, i think hank only nuked shady sands when the NCR managed to take it back as he was afraid of retribution for helping take it over the first time. As to the nuking... vault tec almost definitely did NOT drop the bomb. I think the point is that they put so much behind the vaults thinking "well if peace talks go through we will just launch the bombs ourselves". I think they weren't quite ready for the bombs to fall and had they been the ones to drop the bombs things would have been different. I think it makes more sense as well that they thought they had it all figured out and they found out they didn't

    • @DominionSorcerer

      They didn't lose Shady Sands till it got nuked, the "fall of Shady Sands" refers to the economical decline of Shady Sands and the NCR as a whole. Something we hear all over the place in New Vegas.

    I could believe the Enclave, acting as the secret inner circle to the quasi-fascist US Government, launched a nuke first with the intent to wipe out the Chinese state and "communism" once and for all. Is it dumb to do so, considering the US Army were steamrolling the Chinese mainland, with the US economy so close to achieving full post-scarcity? Yeah, but that's why Fascism is a poisonous ideology, especially when in the death-throes of a late stage capitalism.

Which is why Megaton exists. Planes stopped working. If US plane fell carrying bomb, plane can break up as falls. Bomb separate. Still not deliberately dropped. So that's one side of the scale. The other is the multiple sources in games contradicting that narrative, such as the chinese sub commander. Why would he lie? Isn't it more likely that he's telling the truth? It's a retcon by the tv writers, none of whom seem to have bothered being consistent. Which, admittedly, is very Bethesda.
